Organizers of EuroTier Middle East, DLG International GmbH, previewed the upcoming 2nd edition of the animal farming trade fair, taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition and Convention Center form 21-23 March 2021, at EuroTier digital.
EuroTier Middle East will feature the all new Aquaculture Zone in 2021. The combination of factors such as a high local consumption pattern of fish and the urge of self sufficiency in terms of production makes the aquaculture industry in the middle east extremely rewarding.
The Middle East aquaculture and fish farming industry has seen a rise of local infrastructure projects come in the past years due to the change in local fish consumption patterns. An example of these lucrative mega projects is the 500,000 sq m salmon, grouper and sea bream RSA farm in Abu Dhabi with production capacity of 4000 tons per year with the development cost at approximately USD 27 Million. HE Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Al Mheiri, Minister of State for Food & Water Security in the United Arab Emirates
Speaking at the opening of the EuroTier Middle East Preview Day at EuroTier digital HE Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Al Mheiri, Minister of State for Food & Water Security in the United Arab Emirates said:
“One aspect of our animal farming sector where the UAE is making considerable progress is Aquaculture. The UAE is blessed with having an extensive coastline with fishing being a major industry to support the countries communities. However with the UAE’s rapid economic take off our domestic fishing industry has been unable to meet the seafood demands of a growing population. With a consumption of more than 30 kgs per person each year the UAE population, consumes more seafood than the global average. This has resulted in seafood imports outperforming national production. The answer to reducing the dependency on these imports and increasing our efficiency has been to create a strong and vibrant aquaculture sector. With the aim of creating food value chain from fresh water sea water environments we are very delighted to see that Aquaculture forms a big part of the EuroTier Middle East event”
HE Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Al Mheiri, also spoke about the importance of the EuroTier Middle East platform in general and the important role it plays in the animal farming industry. She said “the forthcoming EuroTier trade fair in June will be one of its most important editions as it is expected to be the first global forum to assess the overall impact of the Coronavirus on the animal farming industry, and the future of the industry post pandemic that will shape the future of food security.”
